Dir. Bozena Garus
(French-Italian-Polish co-production)

The life story of Alicja Eber (Beata Pozniak), daughter of a well know Rabbi in Poland who was jailed for helping Jewish people during the war. After escaping to Italy she became one of the most sought after artists in Rome. The film was shot in Italy with the most famous art critics and the former Mayor of Rome. During her lifetime, Alicja Eber had corresponded with the Pope, and he subsequently allowed the filmmakers to do their post-production at the Vatican.

“Originally, actress Monica Vitti was cast to play Alice. But just a few days before shooting a tragic fire destroyed Vitti’s house and left her too devastated to work on the project. Since I already had film crews standing by I had to act quickly. What other actor could pull this off? I thought of Beata Pozniak at the time as a wonderful actor but too young for the part as it had been written. I found Beata in New York and after she agreed to do it, I rewrote the part for her overnight” Award winning director Bozena Garus
