Although "The Officer's Wife" is a personal story about one woman, it's lead character is in fact a symbol of the many thousands of women and their families whose lives were forever scarred by the Katyn incident. In a bitter irony just as the film was being completed Poland experienced a second unimaginable shock with the crash of the presidential plane attempting to land at Katyn for an historic memorial event. A number of important people killed in the plane crash were interviewed about the original incident in Katyn and actually appear in the film.
