“Violence and Nonviolence In The Media: What’s Your Take?”

A Season For Nonviolence A panel symposium featured such prominent entertainment industry producers, directors, writers, and personalities as Chris McQuarrie (Academy Award winner, “The Usual Suspects”), Dick Richards (producer - Tootsie, director - “Farewell My Lovely”, “March or Die”, and Stephen Simon (producer – “Somewhere in Time”, “All the Right Moves”, “What Dreams May Come” starring Robin Williams) and actress - Beata Pozniak (“JFK”, “Young Indiana Jones”), the panel addressed issues of violence in film, television and the press. This controversial issue was discussed from the perspectives of box office success to having a creative voice to whether or not the portrayal of violence on film leads to a more violent society. This event was part of the 64th day campaign honoring the 50th Memorial Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi (January 30), and the 30th Memorial Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (April 4th), in which citywide activities were occurring.
