HOLLYWOOD, Robert Altman will be honored with the John Cassavetes Award during the independent Spirit Awards ceremony March 28 at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood.
The Cassavetes Award is given to the filmmaker "whose work has significantly extended the possibilities of film art."
Independent Feature Project West, which puts on the informal awards show, also announced that Danny Aiello, Lou Diamond Phillips, Mimi Rogers, Mario Van Peoples, Beata Pozniak, John Glover, Larry Fishburne, Sofia Coppola and Johnny Depp have been added as celebrity presenters for the seventh annual event.
During the awards program, IFP will disclose details of it's Multicultural Task Force, designed "to serve as a catalyst for change in the type of cinema made."
The task force will promote the production of movies that "reflect the need of all our people" in order "to create a more unified society," said co-chair Frank Zuniga in a statement.
