HOW THE OTHER HALF LOVES Written by Alan Ayckbourn The Contemporary Theater 1983 Role: Mary Featherstone Dir. Maciej Englert Beata Pozniak Wieslaw Michnikowski Zofia Kucowna Czeslaw Wollejko Marta Lipinska Krzysztof Kowalewski “How the Other Half Loves” is a comedy of well-to-do people getting lost in the mix between social graces and personal misunderstandings. In common with Wilde and Coward, it trades on the quintessentially English sense of faint superiority and the repression of natural emotional reactions to extreme situations. “Beata Pozniak as a new character - a " towering woman" is a phenomenal discovery of director Maciej Englert. It's been a really long time since we have witnessed such a successful debut by a young actor.” Beata Pozniak, a dazzling actress until now unknown outside her native Gdansk, creates a unique, burlesque character. She struts with her legs stiffly getting in the way, with her pocketbook at odd angle, her doll face a blank, all this topped with a monstrous beehive. She does those little acting exercises- the way she drinks her tonic, the way she sits down on a couch, her frantic activity in the 3rd act. All these are precisely executed to stay on the right side of a good joke. -- TEATR monthly Magazine
